Interested in Foreign Trade and Security Policy?

Do you have a strong interest in foreign trade, the EU's economic security, and preparedness issues in a geopolitically transformative time? Then you should apply to us!

The Swedish National Board of Trade is Sweden's authority for issues related to foreign trade, the EU's internal market, and EU trade policy. Our main mission is to provide expert support, analysis, and background material to the Government Offices and to contribute to increased knowledge within our areas of operation. We also work with trade-related development cooperation funded by Swedish aid. Since July 2025, we are the sector-responsible authority for foreign trade within the Swedish civil defense.

The National Board of Trade advocates for free trade and the free movement within the EU's internal market. The starting point is the overall Swedish economic interest against the backdrop of the government's overarching goals for growth and employment. Our vision is sustainable trade without barriers.

Many experts with backgrounds in economics, law, and social sciences work with us. We are about 100 employees, and our office is centrally located in Kungsholmen, Stockholm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Do you want to work on issues at the intersection of foreign trade and security policy, where questions of foreign trade within society's preparedness are included? A well-functioning foreign trade is crucial for Sweden's economy and prosperity, especially in turbulent times. In 2026, we will strengthen our capacity as the responsible authority for foreign trade within civil defense. This includes expanding collaboration with the business community and developing work on supply analyses and data analysis to monitor trade flows.

A large part of your work will involve tasks related to opportunities, risks, and tools to ensure that exports and imports function as smoothly as possible in times of crisis and war. You will prepare decision-making materials, write shorter analyses and investigations, and collaborate with other actors. In this way, your work will be an integral part of developing the authority's work with sector responsibility for foreign trade. A significant part of your work will involve contacts and collaboration with representatives from both authorities and the business community.

The work includes both domestic and international business trips.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with an academic degree in economics, political science, or law, or another area that we assess as relevant for the position. Education in international trade issues or security policy is considered an asset.

For this role, you are expected to have a strong interest in international trade development, the EU's economic security, and civil defense.

You have relevant experience working as an investigator or analyst, preferably in a Swedish authority, an international organization relevant to the work, or within the business community. We consider it an asset if your studies or work have included data analysis, quantitative economic analysis, or systems science. It is also advantageous if you have current work experience from the business community and civil defense.

You have a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and English. You are also comfortable speaking in front of larger groups.

You are self-driven and proactive in your work. You are appreciated for your collaborative approach, you are responsive, flexible, and communicative. To succeed in this role, you need to be analytical, structured, have a very good ability to drive processes forward, be solution-oriented, and able to handle complex tasks that may sometimes come with tight deadlines.

The position is classified and therefore requires Swedish citizenship. A security clearance with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made.
